Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

PulseNet ("we", "our", or "the Service") provides a browser-based network speed estimation tool and educational cybersecurity articles. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the Service.

Information we process

**Speed test telemetry (ephemeral).** When you run a test, your browser exchanges data directly with Cloudflare’s public speed-test endpoints by default to estimate latency, download, and upload performance. A deployment may configure another compatible measurement service. The measurement recipient sees your public IP address and connection metadata; Cloudflare describes its processing at https://speed.cloudflare.com/ and https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/. Request metadata such as IP address, approximate location derived by the hosting provider, user-agent, and timestamps may be available in infrastructure logs for security and reliability. We do not require an account.

**Local storage.** The Service stores your language preference in a cookie, the latest test result in session storage, and up to eight recent tests in this browser’s local storage. Result links may include measurements, public IP and serving region in their query parameters. You can clear test history from the homepage. You can clear cookies and site data at any time in your browser settings.

**No account system.** We do not ask for name, email, or payment information to run a speed test.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small preference cookie for language selection. We use Google Ad Manager and Google Publisher Tag to serve advertising. Advertising requests currently use Google’s limited ads treatment rather than personalized advertising. Depending on the Ad Manager programmatic limited ads setting, Google may still use fraud-prevention cookies or local storage. See https://support.google.com/admanager/answer/9882911. Personalization requires appropriate consent management; the site does not assume consent. Ads are marked separately from the site content; unfilled ad positions are collapsed.

Analytics and ads

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand website visits and usage, including page views and browser/device information. Google Analytics may use cookies and process usage data under Google’s privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). The IP parameter in speed-test result links is removed from the page and referrer URLs configured for Analytics. We also publish an ads.txt file listing authorized advertising sellers; that file does not itself display ads. Google Publisher Tag separately requests in-page banners, bottom anchors, and eligible web interstitials. Google manages the availability, close controls and frequency of native overlay formats.

Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process technical data to provide the Service you request (contract/legitimate interests in operating a free utility) and to secure the infrastructure.

Retention

Hosting logs are retained according to our cloud provider defaults and operational needs, typically for a short period unless needed for abuse investigation. Browser-side preferences remain until you clear them.

Sharing

We use infrastructure providers (for example, Vercel) to host the Service. They process data as processors under their terms. We do not sell personal information.

International transfers

Servers may be located in multiple regions. By using the Service you understand that technical data may be processed outside your country with appropriate safeguards provided by the host.

Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). Do not use the Service if you are under that age.

Your choices

You may stop using the Service, clear cookies/storage, or contact us to ask questions about this Policy. Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, delete, or object to certain processing of personal data. Contact us using the details on the About page when available.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. The "Last updated" date will change when we do. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy where permitted by law.
